Prepost Announcements: I’ve joined a new group blog, The Inbetweeners, for writers and fans of books that blend genres or are otherwise somehow “in between.” The first post is up today. More will come every Monday and Thursday! Also, I’ve got a guest post up at YAtopia with a sketch and write exercise. Comment on that post before Sunday and you could win a 10k word edit.

It’s been a few weeks of literary bounty in the kidlit world! Heck, 2013 has been a year of exciting new releases and debuts. The following are some books that came out just recently that I can’t wait to read!

THE MONSTORE by Tara Lazar, illustrated by James Burks

A picture book about a store that sells monsters. A store that only kids can go to. Sign me up! Unfortunately, Barnes & Noble isn’t stocking any Simon & Schuster titles in store, including THE MONSTORE, though independent bookstores have it and you can order it from Amazon. Tara has taken this really well, considering what it could mean for sales and potential future book deals. If you want to help THE MONSTORE’s cause, she lists some steps and asks for suggestions in this blog post. Tara’s blog is also an amazing resource for new picture book writers. If her information has helped you in the past, please return the favor!

CHARM AND STRANGE by Stephanie Kuehn

An intriguing psychological young adult novel with a title inspired by quarks! What in Win’s past has so disturbed him? I can’t wait to find out.

EVERY DAY AFTER by Laura Golden

Middle grade novel: In Depression era Alabama, Lizzie has a lot to deal with. Her father has left the family and the bank might repossess the house. How will she cope?

But this isn’t even a handful of the great books out there recently! What new books are on your reading list?
